Behind the Mirror: A Journey Into Authentic Beauty with Paje Honor

One of the most common questions we get at Honor Beauty is, “How should I prep my hair before my appointment?” And the truth is, the answer depends on your natural texture and the style you’re hoping to wear.

Your hair prep plays a huge role in how your style holds, how long it lasts, and how smooth and stress-free your morning feels. When your hair arrives in its best possible starting state, your stylist can focus fully on creating the look you’ve envisioned instead of troubleshooting unexpected texture, oil, or buildup.

That’s why we created our Hair Prep Guide – a simple, clear resource designed to help you show up confident and ready.

Below is a breakdown of how to prep for your wedding hair appointment.

Straight to Slightly Wavy Hair

You want: Volume, Curls, Defined Waves, or Textured Styles

  • Wash your hair the night before

  • Use a light conditioner on mids and ends, avoiding the scalp

  • Blow-dry fully with heat protectant

  • Skip heavy oils, serums, or leave-ins

  • If you get oily roots, use dry shampoo in the morning

  • Arrive with hair down and brushed

  • Do not arrive with damp or wet hair

Clean, fully dried hair gives us the best foundation for long-lasting curls and volume.

Wavy to Loose Curl

You want: Polished, Frizz-Free, Heat-Styled Looks

If your hair has natural wave or loose curl and you want a smooth, refined finish:

  • Wash the night before

  • Detangle, condition, and blow-dry with heat protectant

  • Avoid additional products unless discussed with your stylist

  • Use dry shampoo in the morning if roots look oily

  • Arrive with hair down and brushed

  • Avoid curl creams or defining products

  • Skip flat irons, tight buns, or braids beforehand

The goal is to reduce frizz and keep your natural pattern from being altered before styling begins.

Curly Hair Using Your Natural Texture

You want: Defined, Shaped, or Enhanced Natural Curls

If you’re wearing your curls as they are:

  • Wash and condition the morning of or night before, depending on what your curls prefer

  • Use your trusted curl products (ex: curl cream, mousse, other curl defining products)

  • Air dry or diffuse fully before arrival

  • Arrive with hair down and curls defined to the best of your ability

  • Send us a photo of your natural curls and your inspiration style in advance

  • Avoid brushing once dry

This allows us to work with your natural pattern instead of against it.

Curly Hair Using Hot Tools

You want: Smooth or Heat-styled Looks

If you want your curls transformed into a smooth or curled style using heat:

  • Wash, condition, and blow-dry smooth 1–3 days before (preferably using a round brush, or book a blow-out before your wedding day)

  • Use heat protectant

  • Avoid heavy oils and curl creams

  • Hair must be fully dry, detangled, and stretched

  • Do not flat iron unless otherwise advised by your stylist

  • Do not arrive with product buildup

Your appointment time is reserved for styling, not for straightening natural curl patterns from scratch.

Protective Styles

You want: Your Braids, Twists, Locs Styled into a formal look

If you’ll be wearing a protective style:

  • Make sure hair is clean and dry

  • Send us photos of your protective style and your inspiration look in advance

  • Let us know if you want your edges laid

  • Ensure your style is fresh and in good condition

This helps us plan realistically and honour your time.
